March 24:

Saint Aldemar was a monk who lived in Italy during the 11th century. He became widely known for his wisdom and his ability to perform miracles through prayer. From a young age, he joined the famous Monastery of Monte Cassino, which had been founded by Saint Benedict. Saint Aldemar excelled in his studies and was known as the “Wise Aldemar” due to his remarkable intellect.

Given his knowledge and far-reaching vision, a local princess entrusted him with the responsibility of leading a newly established convent for nuns. Saint Aldemar accepted the task and carried it out beautifully. During this time, it became evident that he was a person gifted with the ability to perform miracles, and his miraculous works attracted the attention of many people.

However, his monastery superior called him back to Monte Cassino. The princess, who was unhappy with the decision to call him back, opposed this and a disagreement arose. Despite this, Saint Aldemar escaped to another town, where he lived with three spiritual brothers. One of these brothers, however, harbored ill feelings towards Saint Aldemar and attempted to kill him. In a twist of fate, the weapon misfired, and the would-be attacker ended up injuring himself instead.

After the attacker’s wound became serious, Saint Aldemar prayed for his recovery, and through his prayers, the man was healed. Saint Aldemar later founded his own monastery and, over time, established many more monastic houses, which he personally led. Saint Aldemar passed away around 1080.
