Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary is a worldwide lay apostolic association of Catholics founded in Dublin, Ireland, on 7 September 1921 by Frank Duff. Guided by the Blessed Virgin Mary and operating with the approval of the Catholic Church, the Legion seeks to glorify God through the spiritual growth of its members and active participation in the Church’s mission.
The organization functions through local units called Praesidia, where members gather weekly for prayer, formation, and apostolic planning. Legionaries engage in parish life through family visits, outreach to the sick and elderly, evangelization, missionary activities, and other works of Christian service. Inspired by devotion to Mary and the doctrine of the Mystical Body of Christ, they strive to bring people closer to Jesus through prayer, witness, and personal apostolate.
Today, the Legion of Mary serves in more than 170 countries, with millions of members dedicated to spreading faith, fostering holiness, and supporting the pastoral mission of the Church.
