പോളണ്ടിലെ സെനറ്റിലെ ഒരംഗത്തിന്റെ മകനായി ജനിച്ച വിശുദ്ധ സ്റ്റാന്സിളാവൂസിന് തന്റെ കുടുംബ മാളികയില് സ്വകാര്യമായാണ് പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ലഭിച്ചത്. പിന്നീട് വിയന്നായിലെ ജെസ്യൂട്ട് കോളേജില് ചേര്ന്ന അദ്ദേഹം അവിടെ മറ്റെല്ലാവര്ക്കും മുന്നില് മാതൃകാപരമായ ജീവിതമാണ് നയിച്ചിരിന്നത്. കോളേജിലായിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഒരു മാരക രോഗം പിടിപ്പെട്ട് കിടപ്പിലായി.
ഈ അവസ്ഥയില് വിശുദ്ധ ബാര്ബറ രണ്ട് മാലാഖമാര്ക്കൊപ്പം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുകയും പരിശുദ്ധ ദിവ്യകാരുണ്യം നല്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. കൂടാതെ പരിശുദ്ധ കന്യകാമറിയം വിശുദ്ധന് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുകയും അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു ജെസ്യൂട്ട് സന്യാസിയാവുമെന്ന് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. വിയന്നായിലെ ജെസ്യൂട്ട് ആശ്രമാധികാരി സ്റ്റാന്സിളാവൂസിന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ കോപത്തെ ഭയന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സഭയില് ചേര്ക്കുന്നതിന് വിസമ്മതിച്ചു.
അതിനാല് സ്റ്റാന്സിളാവൂസ് ഏതാണ്ട് 350 മൈലുകളോളം സഞ്ചരിച്ച് ഓഗ്സ്ബര്ഗിലേക്കും അവിടെ നിന്ന് ഡില്ലിന്ജെന്നിലേക്കും പോയി. ജര്മ്മനിയിലെ ജെസ്യൂട്ട് ആശ്രമാധികാരിയായ വിശുദ്ധ പീറ്റര് കനീസിയസ് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആശ്രമത്തിലെടുത്തത്. മൂന്നാഴ്ചക്ക് ശേഷം വിശുദ്ധനെ റോമിലെ ജസ്യൂട്ട് ജനറലായ വിശുദ്ധ ഫ്രാന്സിസ് ബോര്ഗിയയുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കയച്ചു. തന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടത്തിന് വിപരീതമായി തന്റെ 17-മത്തെ വയസ്സില് അദ്ദേഹം റോമില് വച്ച് ജസ്യൂട്ട് സഭയില് ചേര്ന്നു.
പരിശുദ്ധ ദിവ്യകാരുണ്യം സ്വീകരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഉള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആത്മനിര്വൃതി മൂലം ആരാധനയോടുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിപത്തി സകലര്ക്കും പ്രകടമായിരുന്നു. സഭയില് ചേര്ന്ന് ഒമ്പത് മാസമായപ്പോഴേക്കും അദ്ദേഹം വീണ്ടും രോഗത്തിന് പിടിയിലാകുകയും മരണമടയുകയും ചെയ്തു.
Saint Stanislaus Kostka was born the son of a senator in Poland. He received his early education privately in his family mansion. Later, he joined the Jesuit College in Vienna, where he led a model life that set an example for all his companions. While still at college, he fell gravely ill with a life-threatening disease.
During this illness, Saint Barbara is said to have appeared to him accompanied by two angels and gave him Holy Communion. Soon afterward, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him and revealed that he would one day become a Jesuit monk.
However, the Jesuit superior in Vienna, fearing the anger of Stanislaus’s father, refused to admit him into the order. Determined to follow God’s call, Stanislaus walked more than 350 miles, first to Augsburg and then to Dillingen in Germany. There, the Jesuit provincial, Saint Peter Canisius, received him into the order.
After three weeks, Saint Peter sent the young aspirant to Rome, to meet the Jesuit General, Saint Francis Borgia. In Rome, at the age of 17, and against his father’s wishes, Stanislaus joined the Society of Jesus.
His devotion during Holy Communion revealed to everyone the deep joy and spiritual ardor he experienced in worship. Only nine months after joining the Jesuits, he once again fell ill and peacefully passed away.
