In order to show solidarity with the people who are suffering due to communal violence in Manipur and to convey the pain and protest to the authorities who need to take urgent measures to end this and to awaken the public conscience, the Shantiyatra protest was organized under the leadership of Kottayam Archdiocese’s lay organization, Knanaya Catholic Congress, with the cooperation of Knanaya Catholic Women’s Association and Knanaya Catholic Youth League. Fr. Chacko Vandankuzhi led the prayer meeting held at Christ the King Cathedral, Kottayam. Then KCC Chaplain Fr. Michael Vettikkatt offered the holy mass, and Forane Vicar Fr. John Chennakuzhi gave the sermon.
Kottayam Archdiocese Metropolitan Mar Mathew Moolakkatt flagged off the Shanti Yatra, which was conducted from Kottayam Christ Raja Cathedral courtyard to Tirunakkara Gandhi Square. KCC President Babu Parampathumayil headed the protest, and Vicar General Fr. Michael Vettikkatt officiated. KCC General Secretary Baby Mulavelipuram, Treasurer John Sutratha, KCWA President Lynsey Rajan, KCYL President Libin Parayil, Idaikat Forona President Philip Perumbalathussery, and Cathedral Unit President Adv. Albert Mathew also spoke.
