Knanaya Missions Outside India

KNANAYA CATHOLIC MISSIONS AND PARISHES IN NORTH AMERICA

The immigrants of the Knanaya Catholics to the United States have organized in different metropolitan cities for religious and cultural programs. To have Malayalam SyroMalabar liturgy, they contacted His Excellency Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, the then Bishop of Kottayam to send priests to offer spiritual services for the Knanaya people. With his encouragement, the people contacted the Latin bishops of the place to start Knanaya Missions served by priests from the Diocese of Kottayam. Some of the Latin bishops were generous to honor the request for starting Knanaya missions. The pastoral arrangements in the Latin Dioceses continued until the establishment of the SyroMalabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago on July 1, 2001.

The following were the nine missions in existence before the formation of the St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago: Chicago (1983), Brooklyn, NY (1993), West Chester & Bronx, NY (1993), Houston (1994), Dallas (1996), Newark, New Jersey (1996), Rockland, NY (1996), Philadelphia (1999) and San Jose (2000).

With the establishment of the St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago, all the Knanaya Catholic Missions in the U.S. fall under this diocese. His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath on October 3, 2001 as the Syncellus (Vicar General) of the Eparchy. Bishop sent his official acceptance letter of missions on October 29, 2003 and asked the mission directors to continue their service in the missions.

Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath established Knanaya Catholic Region in the diocese on April 30, 2006. Fr. Abraham Mutholath, the Vicar General of the diocese was appointed as the director of this region. This region consists of all the Knanaya Catholic missions, parishes, and all Knanaya Catholic faithful living within the boundary of the St. Thomas SyroMalabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. Hence, the Vicar General for the Knanaya Catholics shall be the proper pastor of all the Knanaya Catholics in the diocese and the knanaya people of those areas where there is no knanaya mission or parish. All the pastoral activities of the Knanaya Catholics in the diocese are coordinated through the vicar general assigned for the Knanaya Catholics. Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Rev. Fr. Thomas Mulavanal as Syncellus (Vicar General) of the St. Thomas SyroMalabar Diocese of Chicago and the director of knanaya region of the Diocese with effect from February 08, 2014.

On February 28, 2015 Bishop Jacob Angadiath raised 5 parishes (S. H Church- Chicago, St. Mary’s church-Houston, S. H. Church-Tampa, St. Stephen’s Church-New York, St. Mary’s Church-San Jose) of the Knanaya Region as Forane Churches in the Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago. At present, we have 9 missions and 12 parishes including five Forane parishes in the region served by 15 priests from the Archdiocese of Kottayam and two other Knanaya Catholic Priests providing pastoral care for more than 28,000 Knanaya Catholic people.

KNANAYA CATHOLIC MISSIONS  IN  AUSTRALIA

ഓഷ്യാന

ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലെ മെൽബോണിൽ ആദ്യത്തെ ക്നാനായ അസോസിയേഷൻ 2003 ൽ ആരംഭിച്ചു. ആദ്യത്തെ മിഷൻ 2013 ജൂലൈ 24 ന് മെൽബോൺ ലാറ്റിൻ അതിരൂപതയിൽ സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
ഓസ്ട്രേലിയായിലെ സീറോ മലബാർ വിശ്വാസികൾക്കുവേണ്ടി 2013 ഡിസംബ്ബർ 23 ന് ഫ്രാൻസിസ് മാർപാപ്പ മെൽബോൺ കേന്ദ്രമാക്കി സീറോമലബാർ രൂപത സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. രൂപതാധ്യക്ഷനായി മാർപാപ്പ നിയമിച്ചത് മാർ ബോസ്കോ പുത്തൂരിനെയാണ്. ന്യൂസിലാൻഡിലെ സീറോ മലബാർ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ അപ്പസ്തോലിക് വിസിറ്റേറ്ററായും അദ്ദേഹം സേവനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. 2015 ഒക്ടോബർ 04ന് നിലവിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സെയിന്റ് മേരീസ് ക്നാനായ കാത്തോലിക് മിഷൻ മെൽബോൺ സീറോ മലബാർ രൂപതയുടെ ഭാഗമായി. 2019 ഒക്ടോബർ 01ന് പാരിഷ് ആയി സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.ബഹു. കണ്ടാരപ്പള്ളി സ്റ്റീഫൻ അച്ചൻ പ്രഥമ മിഷൻ ചാപ്ലയിൻ ആയും തുടർന്ന് ബഹു. കുമ്പുക്കൽ തോമസ് അച്ചൻ മിഷന്റെ ചാപ്ലയിൻ ആയും സ്തുസ്ത്യർഹമായ സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. ഇപ്പോൾ ബഹു. തൈപുരയിടത്തിൽ പ്രിൻസ് അച്ഛനാണ് മെൽബോൺ ഇടവകയുടെ വികാരി.

2020 മെയ് 31ന് കാൻബറ തിരു ഹൃദയ ക്നാനായ മിഷൻ സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ബഹു. കണ്ണാമ്പടം അഭിലാഷ് അച്ചനാണ് പ്രഥമ ചാപ്ലയിൻ. 2020 ജൂൺ 07ന് ബ്രിസ്‌ബേൻ തിരുക്കുടുംബ ക്നാനായ മിഷൻ സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ബഹു. കൊച്ചേരിൽ ഡാലിഷ് അച്ചനാണ് പ്രഥമ ചാപ്ലയിൻ.
ഈ രൂപതയുടെ കീഴിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ഒരു ഇടവകയും രണ്ടു ക്നാനായ മിഷനുകളും ഉണ്ട്. ക്നാനായക്കാർക്കു സ്വന്തമായി ദൈവാലയം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല. കോട്ടയം അതിരൂപതയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള മൂന്നു വൈദികർ ഇവിടെ ക്നാനായ സമൂഹത്തിനായി സേവനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

ഇവ കൂടാതെ ഓഷ്യാനയിൽ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയുടെ മറ്റു സ്ഥലങ്ങളായ അഡലൈഡ്, ആലിസ് സ്പ്രിങ്, ഡാർവിൻ, ന്യൂ കാസ്സിൽ, നോർത്ത് ക്യുൻസ്ലാൻഡ്, ഓറഞ്ച്, പെർത്,സിഡ്‌നി,, ടൗൺസ്‌വില്ലെ, വാഗാ, ടാസ്മാനിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലും ന്യൂസിലാൻഡ്, സിംഗപ്പൂർ എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും വസിക്കുന്ന ക്നാനായക്കാർ, ക്നാനായ അസ്സോസിയേഷൻകൾ രൂപീകരിച്ചു പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു വരുന്നു. അയ്യായിരത്തോളം ക്നാനായ കത്തോലിക്കർ ഓഷ്യാനയുടെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി വസിക്കുന്നു.
