നിരവധി അത്ഭുതങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കാനഡായിലെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ വിശുദ്ധ ആന്നേ ഡെ ബീപ്രേ ദേവാലയത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അറിയാത്തവര്‍ വളരെ ചുരുക്കമേ കാണുകയുള്ളൂ. ഇവിടെ രോഗശാന്തി ലഭിക്കുന്ന അനേകം മുടന്തന്‍മാര്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ ക്രച്ചസ് ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു. വിശുദ്ധ ജോവാക്കിമിനോടും വിശുദ്ധ ഹന്നായോടും (പരിശുദ്ധ കന്യാമറിയത്തിന്റെ അമ്മയെ അന്ന എന്ന് വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ആൻ (Anne) എന്ന ആംഗലേയ നാമം ഗ്രീക്കിലെ ഹന്ന എന്ന വാക്കിൽ നിന്നും ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞു വന്നതാണ്. ) പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിക്കുവാനായി ആയിരകണക്കിന് മൈലുകള്‍ അപ്പുറത്ത് നിന്നുപോലും ഈ ദേവാലയത്തിലേക്ക്‌ തീര്‍ത്ഥാടകര്‍ പ്രവഹിക്കുന്നു. ഒരുകാലത്ത്‌ ജൂലൈ 26ന് വിശുദ്ധ ഹന്നായുടെ തിരുനാള്‍ മാത്രമേ ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നുള്ളു. പക്ഷേ പുതിയ ദിനസൂചികയില്‍ പരിശുദ്ധ മറിയത്തിന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ രണ്ട് തിരുനാളുകളും ഒരുമിച്ചു ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഏതാണ്ട് 170-ല്‍ രചിക്കപ്പെട്ട യാക്കോബിന്റെ സുവിശേഷങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുമാണ് പരിശുദ്ധ മറിയത്തിന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരങ്ങള്‍ അറിവായിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഇതിലെ വിവരങ്ങള്‍ അനുസരിച്ച് അക്കാലത്തു ഏറെ ബഹുമാനിതനുമായ വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു ജൊവാക്കിം. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പത്നിയായിരുന്നു ഹന്നാ. ഈ ദമ്പതികള്‍ക്ക്‌ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളായി കുട്ടികളൊന്നും ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നു. മക്കള്‍ ജനിക്കാത്തത് കൊണ്ട് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഒരു ശിക്ഷ എന്ന നിലയിലായിരുന്നു അവര്‍ ഇതിനെ കണ്ടിരുന്നത്. വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ നീണ്ട അവരുടെ പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനയുടെ ഫലമായി മറിയം ജനിക്കുകയും, അവളുടെ ചെറുപ്പത്തില്‍ തന്നെ അവര്‍ അവളെ ദൈവത്തിനു സമര്‍പ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
വിശുദ്ധരായ ജോവാക്കിമിന്റെയും, ഹന്നായുടേയും തിരുനാളുകള്‍ പണ്ട് മുതലേ നിലവിലുണ്ട്. മധ്യകാലഘട്ടത്തില്‍ വിശുദ്ധ ഹന്നായുടെ നാമധേയത്തില്‍ നിരവധി ദേവാലയങ്ങളും, ആശ്രമങ്ങളും സമര്‍പ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. പണ്ട് മുതലേ ഈ ദമ്പതികളെ ക്രിസ്തീയ വിവാഹ ബന്ധത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തമ മാതൃകകളായിട്ട് പരിഗണിച്ചു വരുന്നു. ജെറുസലെമിലെ സുവര്‍ണ്ണ കവാടത്തില്‍ വെച്ചുള്ള അവരുടെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടല്‍ കലാകാരന്‍മാരുടെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട വിഷയമായിരുന്നു.
യേശുവിന്റെ വല്യമ്മയെന്ന നിലയില്‍ ഹന്നാ പ്രത്യേക ശ്രദ്ധയാകര്‍ഷിക്കുകയും, പലപ്പോഴും ചിത്രകലകളില്‍ യേശുവിന്റെയും മറിയത്തിന്റെയും ഒപ്പം ചിത്രീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഫ്രാന്‍സിലെ ബ്രിട്ടാണിയിലുള്ള സെന്റ്‌ ആന്നേ ഡി ഓരേ’യും, കാനഡായിലെ ക്യൂബെക്കിന് സമീപത്തുള്ള സെന്റ്‌ ആന്നേ ഡി ബീപ്രേയും ഈ വിശുദ്ധയുടെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ദേവാലയങ്ങളാണ്. പരിശുദ്ധ മറിയത്തിന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ ജീവിതത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് നമുക്ക്‌ വളരെക്കുറച്ചു അറിവ്‌ മാത്രമേയുള്ളു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും പരിശുദ്ധ മറിയത്തേ പരിഗണിച്ചു നോക്കുമ്പോള്‍, മറിയത്തേ നമുക്ക്‌ സമ്മാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് രക്ഷാകര ദൗത്യത്തില്‍ ഒരു പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട പങ്ക് വഹിച്ച ഇവര്‍ തീര്‍ച്ചയായും ഉന്നതമായ വ്യക്തിത്വങ്ങളാണെന്ന് ഉറപ്പിക്കാം.
വിശുദ്ധ ഹന്നായുടെ നാമധേയത്തില്‍ ജെറുസലേമില്‍ ഒരു ദേവാലയം ഉണ്ട്. ഇത് വിശുദ്ധരായ ജോവാക്കിമിന്റെയും, ഹന്നായുടേയും ഭവനമിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് തന്നെയാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ദമ്പതിമാരുടെ ഭവനത്തില്‍ വെച്ചാണ് കന്യകാ മറിയം ദൈവമാതാവാകുവാനുള്ള ദൈവീക പരിശീലനം നേടിയത്‌. പരിശുദ്ധ മാതാവിനോടുള്ള ക്രൈസ്തവരുടെ സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ ഒരു വിപുലീകരണമാണ് ഈ ദമ്പതിമാരോടുള്ള ഭക്തി.
Very few remain unaware of the famed Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupré in Canada, which has borne witness to numerous miracles over the centuries. Many pilgrims suffering from illness or disability have found healing here — it is not uncommon to see crutches abandoned at the site, a silent testimony to restored mobility and faith. Pilgrims travel thousands of miles to pray to Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Traditionally, July 26 was celebrated solely as the Feast of Saint Anne, but with the revised liturgical calendar, the feast of both Saints Joachim and Anne is now observed together, honoring them as the parents of the Mother of God.
Much of what we know about Mary’s parents comes from the Protoevangelium of James, a second-century apocryphal gospel written around AD 170. According to this account, Joachim was a respected and devout man, and his wife Anne shared his piety. For years, they suffered the sorrow of childlessness, which in those times was perceived as a sign of divine disfavor. After fervent prayers, Mary was born — a miraculous answer to their long wait. From her early childhood, she was dedicated to God and raised in holiness.
The devotion to Saints Joachim and Anne dates back to early Christian centuries. In the Middle Ages, numerous churches and monasteries were dedicated to Saint Anne. The couple has long been revered as the ideal model for Christian marriage and parenthood.
Artists have often depicted the Meeting of Joachim and Anne at the Golden Gate of Jerusalem — a scene symbolizing hope, renewal, and divine promise. Saint Anne, as the grandmother of Jesus, is frequently portrayed alongside the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child, especially in iconography and sculpture.

Though Scripture offers limited historical detail about Joachim and Anne, their importance is evident when viewed through the life of Mary. By raising Mary in virtue and preparing her to accept God’s will, they played a crucial role in the history of salvation. Devotion to them, therefore, is seen as a natural extension of Christian love and reverence for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
According to tradition, a church in Jerusalem is believed to be built over the site of their home. It is thought that within this home, the Virgin Mary was spiritually and divinely formed to one day become the Mother of the Redeemer.
