Saint Conrad was a friar of the Third Order of the Franciscans. He was born into a noble family in Piacenza, Italy. Once, during a hunting expedition, a fire he had started accidentally burned a nearby field. However, some people tried to place the blame on a poor man and have him executed. Saint Conrad, instead, courageously came forward and admitted his fault. As a penance, he had to sell all of his property.

Following this, Saint Conrad and his wife decided to lead a spiritual life. Accordingly, his wife joined the Franciscan Third Order and became a nun. Saint Conrad went to Noto in Sicily and served in a hospital dedicated to Saint Martin. He resided in a monastery built by a wealthy friend.

He spent about three decades there. In the final period of his life, he experienced solitude in a cave near Pizzone outside Noto, making his last years truly remarkable. Pope Paul III officially approved Saint Conrad’s monastic order.
