According to the testimony of Eusebius, Saint Flavia Domitilla was the niece of Saint Flavius Clemens, a martyr. She was also a descendant of Emperor Domitian. The emperor had her illustrious uncle executed and exiled Flavia to Pontia because of her Christian faith. There, she lived a devout life along with her maidservants and eunuchs, Nereus and Achilleus.

The rooms they lived in remained preserved at that location for nearly 300 years. According to Saint Jerome, when Saint Paul was traveling from Rome to Jerusalem, he visited their island. Upon meeting them, he noted that they had reached the height of spiritual devotion. Saint Jerome also stated that her exile itself was like a prolonged form of martyrdom.

Later, according to accounts about Nereus and Achilleus, Flavia returned to Terracina, where she was burned to death for refusing to offer sacrifices to pagan gods. Her holy relics were reportedly preserved along with those of Nereus and Achilleus. Though they were her earthly servants, they shared equally in her heavenly glory. This royal virgin found great joy in suffering for the sake of righteousness.
