St. Prosper was born in 390 AD in Aquitaine, France. He left Aquitaine and went to Provence, where he settled in Marseilles. Most of his life was spent seeking answers to theological questions. In 428, Prosper wrote a letter to St. Augustine, and in response, St. Augustine wrote short treatises based on the ideas of “unceasing effort” and “divine will.” Encouraged by his friend Hilary, who urged him to write to St. Augustine, Prosper also made a pilgrimage to Rome to meet Pope Celestine I.

During this time, St. Prosper strongly opposed the semi-Pelagianism theory, which was related to the salvation of St. John Cassian. St. Prosper wrote hymns and short treatises. He is also said to have been the secretary to the great Pope Leo the Great.

In 463, St. Prosper passed away and entered into the presence of God. From the early days of Rome until the time when the Vandals, a tribe from the east, attacked and conquered Rome in 455, St. Prosper provided a clear historical account of the events. Additionally, he was known for being a skilled logician.
