1591-ല്‍ സ്പെയിനിലെ കാറ്റലോണിയയിലാണ് വിശുദ്ധ മൈക്കല്‍ ഡി സാന്‍ക്റ്റിസ് ജനിച്ചത്. വിശുദ്ധന് 6 വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ, അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കളോട് താന്‍ ഒരു സന്യാസിയാകുവാന്‍ പോകുന്ന കാര്യം അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നു. മാത്രമല്ല അദ്ദേഹം വിശുദ്ധ ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് അസ്സീസ്സിയെ വലിയ തോതില്‍തന്നെ അനുകരിച്ചിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ മരണത്തിനു ശേഷം മൈക്കല്‍ ഒരു വ്യാപാരിയുടെ സഹായിയായി കുറച്ചുകാലം ജോലിചെയ്തു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും, അസാധാരണമായ ഭക്തിയോടും, വിശ്വാസത്തോടും കൂടിയ ജീവിതമായിരുന്നു വിശുദ്ധന് തുടര്‍ന്നിരുന്നത്.
1603-ല്‍ അദ്ദേഹം ബാഴ്സിലോണയിലെ ട്രിനിറ്റാരിയന്‍ ഫ്രിയാര്‍സ് സഭയില്‍ ചേരുകയും, 1607-ല്‍ സര്‍ഗോസയിലെ വിശുദ്ധ ലാംബെര്‍ട്ടിന്റെ ആശ്രമത്തില്‍ വെച്ച് സന്യാസവൃതം സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതിനു ശേഷം അധികം താമസിയാതെ തന്നെ മൈക്കല്‍ ട്രിനിറ്റാറിയാന്‍ സഭയുടെ നവീകരിച്ച വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ ചേരുവാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുകയും വിശുദ്ധന് അതിനുള്ള അനുവാദം ലഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് വിശുദ്ധന് മാഡ്രിഡിലെ നോവീഷ്യെറ്റിലേക്കയക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സെവില്ലേയിലും, സലാമാന്‍കായിലുമായി തന്റെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയ വിശുദ്ധന്, പൗരോഹിത്യ പട്ടം സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും, രണ്ടു പ്രാവശ്യം വല്ലഡോളിഡിലെ ആശ്രമത്തിലെ സുപ്പീരിയര്‍ ആയി സേവനം ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു.
വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബ്ബാനയോടുള്ള മൈക്കലിന്റെ ഭക്തിയും, വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബ്ബാന അര്‍പ്പിക്കുന്ന വേളയില്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുണ്ടാവാറുള്ള ആത്മീയ ഉണര്‍വ് മൂലം ഒരു വിശുദ്ധനായിട്ട് തന്നെയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സഹപ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ മൈക്കലിനെ പരിഗണിച്ചിരുന്നത്. 1625 ഏപ്രില്‍ 10 ന് തന്റെ 35-മത്തെ വയസ്സില്‍ വിശുദ്ധന് കര്‍ത്താവില്‍ അന്ത്യനിദ്ര പ്രാപിച്ചു. 1862-ല്‍ പിയൂസ്‌ ഒമ്പതാമന്‍ പാപ്പാ മൈക്കല്‍ ഡി സാന്‍ക്റ്റിസിനെ വിശുദ്ധനായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. വിശുദ്ധന്റെ പേരില്‍ നിരവധി ആത്ഭുതങ്ങള്‍ നടന്നിട്ടുള്ളതായി പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
റോമന്‍ രക്തസാക്ഷി പട്ടികയില്‍ വിശുദ്ധ മൈക്കല്‍ ഡി സാന്‍ക്റ്റിസിനെ “അസാമാന്യമായ നിഷ്കളങ്ക ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ഉടമ, അതിശയിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അനുതാപി, ദൈവസ്നേഹത്തിന്‍റെ ഉദാത്ത മാതൃക” എന്നാണു പരമര്‍ശിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. അപാരമായ വിശുദ്ധിയോട് കൂടിയ ജീവിതം നയിക്കുവാന്‍ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട വ്യക്തിയായിരിന്നു അദ്ദേഹമെന്ന കാര്യം വിശുദ്ധന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലെ ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളില്‍ തന്നെ മനസ്സിലാക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.
ദൈവത്തോടുള്ള തന്റെ സ്നേഹത്തേയോ, തന്റെ ദൈവനിയോഗത്തേയോ പ്രതി വിശുദ്ധന് ഒരിക്കലും ചഞ്ചലചിത്തനായിരുന്നില്ല. നമ്മുടെ യുവജനത ഒരു മാര്‍ഗ്ഗദര്‍ശിത്വത്തിനായി ഉഴറുന്ന ഈ ലോകത്ത്‌, വിശുദ്ധ മൈക്കല്‍, യുവാക്കള്‍ക്കും, പ്രായമായവര്‍ക്കും ഒരുപോലെ അനുകരണത്തിനും, പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനക്കും പറ്റിയ ഏറ്റവും ഉദാത്തമായ മാതൃകയായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.
Saint Michael de Sanctis was born in 1591 in Catalonia, Spain. At the age of 6, he expressed to his parents his intention of becoming a monk. He greatly admired Saint Francis of Assisi and sought to follow his example. After the death of his parents, Michael worked for a while as an assistant to a merchant. However, he continued to lead a life filled with extraordinary devotion and faith.
In 1603, he joined the Trinitarian Friars in Barcelona and took his religious vows in 1607 at the Monastery of Saint Lambert in Zaragoza. Soon after, he expressed his desire to join the reformed branch of the Trinitarian Order and received permission to do so. He was transferred to a novice house in Madrid, where he completed his studies in Seville and Salamanca, after which he was ordained a priest. He served as superior twice at the monastery in Valladolid.
Michael’s devotion to the Holy Eucharist was profound, and his spiritual awakening during the Eucharistic celebration led his fellow friars to regard him as a saint even during his lifetime. On April 10, 1625, at the age of 35, he passed away in the Lord. In 1862, Pope Pius IX canonized him as a saint. Many miracles have been attributed to his intercession.
The Roman Martyrology describes Saint Michael de Sanctis as “the possessor of an extraordinary and spotless life, a remarkable penitent, and an exalted model of divine love.” From the early stages of his life, it was clear that he was chosen to lead a life of extraordinary holiness.
