August 22:

It is a most important fact that the Catholic Church has acknowledged the royal dignity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”
Authoritative testimonies regarding this truth have been provided by the Fathers of the Church, the Church’s theologians, and the Popes.
On October 11, 1954, Pope Pius XII, through his encyclical, recognized the long-cherished desire of all the faithful and shepherds and proclaimed that the Feast of the Queenship of Mary should be celebrated.
By then, the devotion that Catholic faithful all over the world had been expressing toward the Blessed Virgin Mary — Mother of both Heaven and Earth — had thereby received formal recognition.

We know that in the complete, exalted, and explicit sense of the term “King,” the fullness of kingship belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ, because He is both God and, at the same time, true man.
Yet none of these truths are sufficient to exclude Mary from sharing in Christ’s royal dignity, for she is the Mother of Jesus.
Moreover, she was a participant in the divine Redeemer’s struggle against His enemies and in His victory over them.

Through this union with Christ, she has undoubtedly obtained a special place above all created beings; and through this same union with Jesus, she is made worthy of the royal authority to dispense the special treasures of the heavenly kingdom of the Divine Redeemer.
Finally, this same union with Jesus has made her an inexhaustible fountain of unceasing intercessions before the throne of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Pope Pius IX, in his declaration of the “Immaculate Conception” (Ineffabilis Deus), stated:
“More than all the angels and all the saints, God endowed Mary with gifts from His heavenly treasury in a manner beyond all telling; and she, preserved entirely free from even the least stain of sin, was filled with innocence and holiness to such a degree that no one but God Himself could possess a greater fullness.”

In the eyes of her Son, Mary holds the highest place above all others.
To understand her preeminence above all as the Mother of God, it is enough to recall that the abundance of grace granted to her from the very moment of her conception surpassed the graces possessed by all the saints combined.
