According to the instruction of Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, Archbishop of Kottayam, the parishes, schools, pastoral centres and Thuvanisa are open for flood distress relief camps. Every parish in the archdiocese is cooperating wholeheartedly. The members in camp increases day by day… St. Ann’s School Vellamunda with more than 260, Chaithanya 220, Pavana Pastoral centre 164 etc are some of them. The camps in Thuvanisa, Neericad, Olessa, Kallissery, Kumarkom, Ranny, Chingavanam, Malloossery etc are other important shelters. Kallissery, Ranny, Veliyanad, Chengalam and Kannamkara are isolated for a long time.
Priests and People of Uzhavoor, Poozhikkol, Piusmount, Eravimangalam, Kothanalloor (the list is certainly incomplete) etc rushed to centres. Under the leadership of Fr Thomas Kaitharam, Vicar General of Knanaya Malankara region, a group could reach at Kallissery and provide some materials. But the place remains isolated even now. Today, parishioners from Uzhavoor, Poozhikol etc will reach there with firewood and cheppels.
This evening volunteers of KSSS, Chaithanya will reach at Kallisery by a tipper lorry with materials. Kottayam Social Service Society (KSSS) alone provides more than 4000 food packets daily. Parishes like Kaipuzha, Kallara old and new, Kaipuzha, Ettumanoor, Palathuruth, Malloossery, Mannanam, Samkranthy, Caritas etc offered pothichor along with SVM, SJC, Caritas, LDSJG, CFIC, Vincentian Provincial House, Kottayam and Caritas hospital.
Under the coordination of KSSS, Chaithanya, the archdiocese provides food to camps in government schools, SNDP camps, Panchayath shelters and other distress relief camps. Altogether the Kottayam Archdiocese manages to provide more than 10,000 food packets a day. The services under MASSS is covetable especially in Wayanad. Under the leadership and coordination of Fr. Michael Vetticatt, the Vicar General, Archdiocese tries to reach various remote areas. The Archeparchy of Kottayam sincerely thanks all those who cooperate with its charitable works especially during this time of crisis. Let us pray and work together for all irrespective of caste, religion and community sentiments.
